Why Maasai-guided
A hiring decision, not a theme.
Our guides grew up moving livestock through country where losing an animal to a lion is a household event. That produces a particular quality of attention.
Every guide holds current Tanzanian professional certification and a valid first-aid qualification, renewed annually at our cost. Most worked the northern circuit for a decade before joining us.
They are not cultural content on your itinerary. There is no dress-up and nothing staged. They are professional field guides who happen to be among the best-placed people in Tanzania to do this work.
What that means in practice
- Tracking
- Spoor, scat, alarm calls and vulture behaviour.
- Vehicle craft
- Reading the light, then positioning the car where the sighting will happen.
- Certification
- Tanzanian professional guiding and first aid, renewed annually at our cost.
- Languages
- Maa and Swahili first, English on every departure, French and German on request.
- Tenure
- Eight to seventeen years each on the northern circuit.
- Training
- Continuing training and a paid apprenticeship for new guides, funded by the company.
